Pilgrimage site Kunštát Chapel
We invite you to another unique pilgrimage site with an exceptional atmosphere in the foothills of the Orlické Mountains. Come with us to discover its story.
Kunštát Chapel is the highest-situated chapel in the Orlické Mountains, and its origins date back to 1670. The chapel lies in an area of raised bog peatland with spruce forest. A number of rare flowers also grow here. It served as a place of worship for forestry workers, who were mostly from Germany, from the Tyrol region, and came to the Orlické Mountains for work.
The renovated chapel is covered with a shingle roof. Its interior was destroyed after the expulsion of the German population following World War II and it underwent a complete reconstruction in 1967. The full renovation was completed by people from the Via Aurea civic association in 2004, when a replica of the altar and a copy of the original Pietà were placed inside.
You can easily reach it from the upper cable-car station on Mount Zakletý in the Říčky in the Orlické Mountains ski area; the route can alternatively be adapted. The chapel is also accessible via the yellow hiking trail from Zdobnice or via the green trail from Říčky in the Orlické Mountains, and you can then continue along the ridge via Mezivrší and Komáří vrch.
